This design challenge is done for the Solid Mechanics class MAE 131A, where the objective is to find the most robust and cost-effective material to make an airplane wing spar. The materials list given includes:
1. Aluminium 7075-T6
2. Steel
3. Carbon Fibre
4. Titanium Alloy
Through analysis, it is concluded that aluminum is the best material for the job.
For the MAE 3 Fall 2024 Robot Competition, our team designed and manufactured a robot for precise object retrieval and delivery. My role is to calculate the required torque and power to design a four-bar linkage mechanism and a compound gear set. We utilized Fusion 360 and AutoCAD for 3D modeling and technical drawing, and fabricated components using a CO2 laser cutter and acrylic. The robot scored 200/324 points within the one-minute competition time limit (and 260/324 points without a limit), resulting in a first-place victory out of the entire course.
